A Worse Idea 61

Anne went to bed shortly after her show ended, but she didn’t go to sleep.

Tossed and turned.

Cried a bit.

She didn’t know that Shade was dead, but god, it wasn’t like she was stupid.

Someone had wanted to kill Shade. Then Shade had disappeared.

That’s all Anne needed to know.

She took in slow, deep breaths.

That’s all I need to know.

Anne wrapped her arms around her pillow. Strangled the pillow. Smothered it with love.

She couldn’t stop crying.

She wiped her tears on the pillow. Imagined that it was Shade. Imagined Shade in the bed with her.

“Can’t leave,” Anne muttered, sobbing. “Everyone leaves.”
