Something had gone very, very wrong.
Randy wasn’t sure of much, but he was sure of that.
He was supposed to be with Shade, protecting the girl, making sure none of the assassins got to her. But something deep inside of him had brought him elsewhere.
He sat at the fast food joint, eating a thing of fries. They tasted so good.
But he was only half there. The other half of him was focused on a future that never existed, a future that Praetor VII had been a part of.
Bombs, destruction, the Queen of the Future.
How had it all gone so wrong?
Randy tried bringing himself back into the present moment, but then he thought about White Tiger, his father from years ago.
No, wait. That wasn’t right. Randy was convinced that White Tiger had been his father, but that couldn’t have been true. Randy was just a machine, a machine that’d stolen a couple of human parts.
As he thought of White Tiger, a vision appeared before him. Exactly as Katie’s powers had allowed her to see the future, so too could Randy see an event that wasn’t so far away.
A man and a girl, coming into the fast food joint, attacking him.
Let them, he thought. He was so confused. He felt so many differing impulses, so that he didn’t know what to do.
He looked at the watch he’d stolen off Praetor VII. It showed that Shade was in the outskirts of Miami.
Randy wondered what Shade could possibly be doing there.
