A Bad Idea 139

Matthew and Louis took the first flight to Virginia. The Bureau hadn’t been happy about it, but Louis had made a convincing argument: it’d look fishy if he flew up without Matthew. Galactic Man would know something was wrong. And that would be wrong.

Right?

Louis and Matthew fucked in the plane’s bathroom. They knew they shouldn’t, but goddamn, this situation was nerve wracking. They walked out of the bathroom together, because quite frankly they didn’t care what the other passengers thought.

On the way back to their seats, Louis said, “Looks like today’s going to be–”

“Uh-oh,” Matthew said.

“Shitty.”

Matthew shook his head, as Louis took a seat. Matthew sat down afterwards. “You are so…”

Louis smiled.

“How do you feel about this?”

The smile faded. “Not great.”

“If you want, I can be the one who lies,” Matthew said.

Louis knew that wasn’t true, but he appreciated the thought.

“I’m terrified,” he said, “but I have to do what I have to do.”
